UST Projector Screen Setup Guide: Floor-Rising ALR Checklist
With UST, small geometry errors become obvious fast. The easiest setup is systematic: stabilize the screen first, place the projector second, align physically before using digital correction, then calibrate.
1. Confirm the correct screen orientation and variant
Before unpacking everything, verify that the screen material is intended for your projector position. For the Black Series, NothingProjector distinguishes PRO for cabinet/bench placement and PRO A for ceiling-mounted UST setups.
2. Level and stabilize the screen housing
A floor-rising screen needs a stable, level base. Do not use projector keystone correction to compensate for a screen cabinet that is physically tilted or twisted. Confirm that the rise path is clear and the screen can reach its factory-set operating height without obstruction.
3. Place the UST projector using the projector's own geometry chart
The exact lens distance and vertical offset required for 120 inches are projector-specific. Use the projector manufacturer's measurements, not a generic distance copied from another model.
4. Physically square the image before using digital correction
Adjust cabinet position, projector rotation, fore-aft distance and leveling until the image is as rectangular as possible. Digital warping can be useful for final correction, but heavy electronic correction is a poor substitute for physical alignment.
5. Check focus across the full screen
UST optics are sensitive to alignment. If one edge is sharp and the opposite edge is soft, revisit projector squareness and screen flatness before assuming the projector lens is faulty.
6. Test with the room lights you actually use
Evaluate daytime, evening and overhead-light conditions separately. This is where the ALR surface earns its keep, but it will also show you which room lights are still directly harming perceived contrast.
7. Save final picture settings last
Only after geometry and focus are stable should you fine-tune brightness, contrast, color mode and any motion settings. That keeps optical setup problems from being masked by picture controls.
